Dragon Generator 1.0
UnOfficial 3E Product
by Clayton Boucher, daemon13@softhome.net
Requirements:
VB6 Runtimes
Windows 95/98/ME or 2000 (Developped on 2000, so it runs well there... tested on 98/Me... Unsure bout NT 4!)
Any Processer/Ram/Etc...
Intallation:
Just follow the intallation guide. Choose the location of where you wish to install it, and the program will install itself in that location. Readme.txt is this file, and dragongen.exe is the application itself. The install program will also add a program group to the start menu if you want it to. To run the application, simply click on the dragongen.exe in the folder or choose Dragon Generator from the start menu!
How it works:
The data for the dragons is currently all contained within the program itself. All of the Dragons from the Monster Manual (©Wizards of the Coast) are in the program. A future update will include all the Dragons from the Monster Compendium: Monsters of Faerun. If I run across other books that I buy that contain dragons, I will also include them in the generator.
The random generator simply culls the dragons from a gigantic list to a smaller list that meets the random generator parameters. Then it randomly (based on your system timer as the seed for the randomizer) selects a dragon from there. There are five random generation choices, you can use them all or none. If you using none, the dragon will simply be selected from the entire list of Dragons.
Saving Dragons:
- The program allows you to save the contents of the Dragon displayer to a standard text file that can be ready by any program that can read ASCII files. You can print this document from those applications too!
Random Generation Parameters/Options:
- By Challenge Rating: Use the up and down buttons to change the listed challenge rating. The range can be as big or as small as you like. You can turn this option on or off using the checkbox beside it.
-By Age: All dragons who's age matches that of the selected box will be included in the selection. Select any to not select by age.
-By Alignments: You can search using either of the dragon's alignment. For either alignment, choosing any will broaden the selection. Note: There are no Neutral dragons in the generator right now, so choosing it will never lead to any dragon!
-By Color: This limits the search to one dragon type. Select any to not do so!
-Other notes: See Below Dragon Generator
Dragon Generator Parameters/Options:
This part of the program simply generates a dragon according to the two selection parameters. You choose the color and the age of the Dragon, and the dragon generator will create the dragon for you.
Notes: The Dragon Generator has several random parts to it also (these also affect the Random Generator too):
- The actual age is randomly calculate using the age category's limits
- The Hit Dice are randomly calculated using a Dice Roller (Custom) and adding the HD Bonus
- Feats are first selected randomly from the specific dragon feats (as listed in the Monster Manual), and then according to a list of 20 Feats. The list of feats is included later on in this readme.
Other parts are sequentially calculated:
- Skills. The skills are determined by taking the total number of skills, subtracting the Listen/Spot/Search spend (1/HD as per the MM), and then going through the skill list, adding one to each repeatedly until all skill points are spent. There are currently 10 Skill available, listed below.
List of Feats:
Dragon Feats: Flyby, Hover, Quicken Spell, Snatch, Wingover
Rest of the Feats: Alertness, Cleave, Power Attack, Sunder, Weapon Focus (Claw), Weapon Focus (Bite), Sunder, Improved Initiative, Maximize Spell, Enlarge Spell, Empower Spell, Extend Spell, Heighten Spell, Silent Spell, Still Spell, Expertise, Improved Critical (Claws), Combat Reflexes, Spell Penetration, Leadership, Combat Casting
List of Skills:
Knowledge Skills: Aracana, Dragons, History, Geography and Religion
Others: Bluff, Concentration, Diplomacy, Escape Artist, Scry, Search, Spot, Listen
Special: SpellCraft(Dragon Can Cast Spells), Jump Skill (Free for Red/Gold/Silver/Copper Dragons)
Other Useful Notes:
Attacks: The attack rating listed in the MM already includes the Strength Bonus and Size Modifier
Saves: The saves listed in the MM already include the approrpiate modifiers
Planned Features:
Next Version: - DracoLich template for Evil Dragons!
- A way to influence Skill selection
- A way to influence Feat selection

- Priting From Within the Application
- Horde Generator (Specific to Dragons)
- Other features people request
Future Possibilites: - Applying Class Template (Not sure, this would be quite a bit of work!)
- External Data Files, so people could add their own dragons/more dragons
